HUSQVARNA DOMINATES IN THE DESERT, AGAIN
Zip-Ty Racing Victorious At The Blue Water GP And WORCS Race In The Same Weekend!

Ty Davis |
May 17, 2010 - Woodcliff Lake, NJ - In a banner weekend for the Zip-Ty Racing Husqvarna team, they won the Best In The Desert Water GP on Saturday and then were at it again for the WORCS race at the Honey Lake MX Park on Sunday. Despite making it look easy, the wins were not without a fair amount of drama, not to mention Team Captain Ty Davis making like Mr. Toad on his wild ride to get from Parker, Arizona up to Milford, California (north of Lake Tahoe) in time for his Sunday morning starting time!
The wild weekend action started on Saturday as Nick Burson grabbed second off the line on his TXC 450 and proceeded to show the field how to ride in the desert. With absolutely no wind, the dust just hung in the air making visibility a real problem. “During the first half of the race, Nick had to hang back from the leader a little since you couldn’t see past the handlebars,” noted Ty. However at the halfway point, the leader went down hard, handing desert master Burson a clean field of vision.

Everything was going great, until four miles from the end of the race when a mechanical issue forced Ty to ease off a little bit. “Luck was on our side today,” said a relieved Davis. “We had such a large lead over second place that we were able to cruise to the win.”
While Ty and Nick were beating the Best In The Desert, Cory Graffunder and Bobby Garrison were at the Honey Lake MX facility getting ready for the WORCS race. During Saturday’s qualifying session, Graffunder got a good start and was able to qualify for the Pro2 field on Sunday.

Meanwhile, after a wild Saturday night drive, Ty Davis arrived and lined up for the 40A Class first thing Sunday morning. Despite being at a big disadvantage from not having ridden the course, Ty took his Husqvarna TC 450 to third at the start. Before the end of the first lap moved into 1st and started to stretch his lead. When the dust settled, Davis had more than a minute lead over second place for an easy victory. “This is great! Two wins in two days, you can’t ask for much better than this,” he exclaimed.
After showing his team how it is done, Davis took a spot on the sidelines to watch Bobby Garrison and Cory Graffunder go for it in the Pro and Pro2 classes. Garrison got a good jump off the gate, but got pinched off up towards the first corner and rounded the first corner in 16th position. But by the end of the first lap, Bobby had moved up to 11th. Bobby kept his lap times consistent and as the other riders started to fade, began picking them off one by one. Within two laps he was able to make up the 50 seconds separating him from motocross hero John Dowd (who was filling in for the injured WORCS regular Ricky Deitrich) and pass him for 9th, where he finished the race. “I was able to see Dowd in front of me, but he was pretty far up there,” said Garrison. “I just put my head down and kept pushing and then all of a sudden there he was and I made the pass!” Getting by Dowd should be a good tune-up for Garrison as he plans to race both the MX National opener at Hangtown this weekend and the USGP at Glen Helen the following weekend.
It was a whole different story in the Pro2 race. Cory Graffunder got a great start on his Zip-Ty Racing Husqvarna TXC450 and rounded the first corner in third place. He quickly made the pass into second and set his sights on the leader. At about the half-way point, Cory went into the lead as Cory Floyd, crashed in one of the faster sections and was slow to get back on the bike. “With a large gas tank, I knew I could run longer than anyone on fuel so I tried to stretch it as far as I could, pitting around 1hour 20 minutes,” explained Cory. “I was able to stretch my lead out and not have to worry about losing it in the pits, which worked out.” From this point, Cory stretched his lead to more than a minute for the overall win.
